Individual Counseling

Individual counseling begins with an intake session. Several important things take place during this session. I begin to learn about you,-what your strengths and challenges are, what motivates you, your unique ways of learning about yourself and the world around you, and what you ultimately seek to create in your life. You also get to learn about me and what it is like to be in the room with me. We will check in to see if it feels like a good fit for us to work together. From there, I will offer you my ideas for what treatment approaches are available to help you reach your goals. Because my therapeutic work is highly individualized, we will choose from options that vary in how structured they are, how focused on behaviors and feelings they are, solution-focused approaches for solving immediate problems, as well as emotionally focused approaches that help you connect with core existential and emotional needs. After the intake, therapy will focus on a balance between helping you learn more about how your mind works, how your emotions serve you, which behaviors help you and which distract you from your goals, and how to utilize your internal resources to help you live an optimal lifestyle. Most people come in for sessions once per week; however, that is highly negotiable depending on your needs and availability.

Couples Counseling

Couples counseling also begins with an intake session and a process of understanding how the relationship will be best helped. Therapy focuses on addressing immediate problems, as well as helping partners learn how to take care of that relationship. Some helpful learning occurs through focusing on communication skills, conflict resolution skills, strengthening of emotional connections, resolving past painful experiences to find healing, and maintenance of the emotional bond. Relationships are complex; it is important to seek clarity in how they work so as to be tuned in and skilled in nurturing them.
